How to Save Children from Malnutrition: The Nepal Youth Foundation
The Nepal Youth Foundation’s Nutritional Rehabilitation Homes restore severely malnourished children to good health while educating their mothers about nutrition and child care. When mother and child return to their village, the mother shares her new knowledge with her family and neighbors.
Most of the children come to a Nutritional Rehabilitation Home unable to smile or play or react to anything — lacking any of the spark that defines a child. It’s not long before they’re more alert and active, and after a few weeks they’re running about and playing. Their mothers also go home with renewed health as well as nutritional education.
The Nutritional Rehabilitation Homes are a program of the Nepal Youth Foundation (NYF). NYF is a U.S. based nonprofit that brings hope to impoverished children in the Himalayan country of Nepal by providing what should be every child’s birthright — freedom, health, shelter, and education.
Because dollars go far in Nepal, NYF literally changes lives for pennies a day.
